Innovative Residential Treatment for Mental Health

Innovative Residential Treatment for Mental Health

An Integrated Approach to Mental and Physical Health.

Accord is a first of its kind, immersive residential treatment program offering mental health metabolic interventions. This exciting, innovative treatment program opened in July 2024.  Accord believes that clients should not have to decide between their physical and mental health, so they support clients in their goals around both. While at Accord, all of the clients follow a medical ketogenic diet under the supervision of a registered dietitian and psychiatrist, both trained by experts in the field. Accord has a chef with years of experience making ketogenic food who prepares delicious meals based on each individuals’ nutritional needs and unique goals. Clients participate in cooking lessons with our chef to learn how to prepare meals for when they return home in order to maintain progress. With an incredibly green thumb, our chef maintains a beautiful garden of herbs and fresh vegetables. Clients join in maintaining the garden and picking herbs and vegetables for their meals. Accord utilizes all fresh and natural ingredients to help foster health and wellness.

Metabolic Interventions: Diet, Exercise, and Sleep.

In addition to making therapeutic changes to one’s diet, Accord focuses on other metabolic interventions such as movement and exercise. The program has a certified personal trainer who supports clients in their fitness goals, tailoring their workouts to their abilities and preferences. Clients can come in with any current or past level of movement/exercise, and the trainer will assess their needs and wants accordingly. Whether one starts with going for walks, running, strength training, or a combination, the trainer is here to support everyone. He has a unique way of challenging clients while keeping a smile on their faces. Everyone has returned from their workouts feeling great, heard and understood.  Eventually, he will work with clients to do a combination of cardiovascular exercise and strength training for optimal progress and physical wellness. Accord believes there are a lot of benefits to physical activity for mental health including walks after meals to improve metabolic health.

Accord supports clients in circadian rhythm alignment through fostering positive sleep hygiene, avoiding metabolic disruptors, and increasing healthy habits. Our therapeutic program focuses on behavioral health and healthy living by providing a lot of nutrition education and teachings on overall metabolic health. The social worker, psychiatrist, dietitian, personal trainer, chef and nurse all run small groups to help clients understand why the metabolic interventions are effective and how to maintain them post-discharge. Additionally, clients participate in mindfulness exercises and learn strategies they can take home with them. While clients stay at the Accord house during the duration of treatment, Accord is less intensive than a locked inpatient program. The clients are able to come and go from the program to maintain community connections.

Client Wellness and Long-term Success.

Patient wellness is the top priority at Accord. The ideal clients for Accord want to work on their mental health via this innovative approach to metabolic health. They should be open to a more holistic approach to wellness based in scientific research. They are motivated or willing to make major lifestyle changes through getting into ketosis, exercising, and improving their circadian rhythm alignment. Ketosis and mental health are largely correlated, and research is showing the benefits. Accord clients are already starting to see improvements in their mental health symptoms in addition to their body composition and physical wellness.

Sustainability is a big goal at Accord, as the program aims to help clients foster long-term success. Through teaching, education, hands-on learning, and sessions to plan for the future, the program works to set clients up to continue growth and progress in their next steps. In addition to this core group, we have program coaches every evening and weekend helping our clients to learn how to remain in ketosis even while being a part of their communities.  They learn how to order take out food, how to eat at a restaurant, how to have a snack at a movie or at a sporting event.  We can show our clients that staying in ketosis doesn’t have to feel like you’re on a very restrictive and unsatisfying diet, but rather, this good food can taste good too.
